ViewLux has sold roofing under several series names since the mid-2000s, and the part you need depends on which generation is on your roof. The ViewLux Premier series, common in Cupertino builds from 2008-2016, used a proprietary ridge vent profile with a 9.5-inch flange width that standard universal vents won’t cover without modification. The ViewLux Select line that followed, 2016-2022, switched to an 11-inch flange and a different fastener pattern, 6 inches on center versus the Premier’s 8 inches. If you’re matching a part, check the underside of any removable vent cover for a stamped date code and series letter, or measure the flange width at the ridge before ordering.

Signs Your ViewLux Roofing Is Failing

• Water staining on ceiling drywall below ridges or valleys. ViewLux ridge vents rely on a butyl tape seal between the vent base and the shingles. In Cupertino’s heat, that tape can dry and crack after 10-12 years, creating a channel that funnels water straight to the deck below. The stain often appears first in a closet or corner where the ceiling meets an exterior wall.
• Shingle tabs lifting or curling near vent edges. ViewLux vents use a compression seal that presses the shingle down. If the vent base warps from thermal cycling, the shingle loses contact and starts to curl. We see this most on south-facing slopes in Cupertino’s Monta Vista neighborhood, where afternoon sun pushes roof surface temperatures past 160°F.
• Granule accumulation in gutters below vented ridges. Excessive granule loss means the shingles are aging faster where the vent contacts them, usually because the vent flange is rubbing or because the wrong vent height was used for the shingle exposure. • Musty smell in attic spaces during winter. A ViewLux vent that looks intact can still fail if the internal baffles have collapsed or if wasps have nested in the channel. • Visible daylight through the vent from inside the attic. This means the vent opening is no longer aligned with the slot cut in the roof deck, either because the deck has shifted or because the vent was installed off-center originally. Either way, rain follows the same path as the light.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here. A homeowner can check the attic for daylight, measure the flange width with a tape measure, and photograph any stamped model numbers on the vent underside. What we don’t recommend is climbing the roof to remove or install a ridge vent. Ridge work requires walking a slope while handling materials, and the fall risk is real, especially on Cupertino’s older homes with 8/12 or steeper pitches in the Monta Vista and Rancho Rinconada areas.
