Which Abodu Models This Applies To

Abodu has shipped three generations of units into Cupertino and the broader Bay Area: the original One series (2018-2021), the current Two series (2021-present), and the Duo dual-unit configuration. The One series used a 24,000 BTU Mitsubishi mini-split with a dedicated line set routed through the steel frame; the Two series moved to a 30,000 BTU variable-refrigerant-flow system with a different chase location. The Duo pairs two units on a single foundation and shares a 200-amp service panel, which changes how electrical parts are spec’d.

To identify your unit, check the data plate inside the utility closet, just above the electrical panel. The model prefix tells the story: AB1- for One series, AB2- for Two series, ABD- for Duo. The wet bath exhaust fan in the One series is a 50-CFM Panasonic WhisperGreen; the Two series upgraded to 80 CFM with a humidity-sensing switch. We stock both. For the mini-split, we source OEM Mitsubishi parts where the refrigerant type matches (R410A for One, R32 for Two), and we do not substitute across refrigerant lines, which is the compatibility gotcha that burns the impatient repair. Aftermarket equivalents exist for the exhaust fan and LED driver modules, but the inverter board and compressor are Mitsubishi-proprietary and must come through authorized supply.

Signs Your Abodu Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

• Mini-split blows warm or cycles rapidly. The inverter board may be failing, or the refrigerant charge has dropped at a flare fitting. In Cupertino’s dry summer heat, a 10-degree delta across the coil instead of the designed 18-20 degrees means the system is working itself to death.
• Wet bath exhaust fan rattles, hums, or quits entirely. The motor bearing has taken in dust from the valley’s long dry season, or the humidity-sensing switch has stuck closed. Left alone, moisture collects on the FRP wall panels and the vent line starts growing what we call “furry drywall.”
• LED fixtures flicker or drop to half brightness. The constant-current driver is overheating in the unconditioned ceiling chase; Abodu packed the insulation tight for efficiency, which starves the driver of cooling air. We see this most in south-facing units above 85 degrees ambient.
• Breaker trips when cooktop and water heater run together. The 40-amp subpanel feed is undersized for simultaneous full draw, or the load-center bus has loosened from thermal expansion. This is not a part failure exactly, but it will cook the breaker and the bus if you keep resetting it.
• Siding seam has opened or the trim cap is lifting. The thermally broken aluminum clip has fatigued after three-plus years of 40-degree morning to 90-degree afternoon swings. Water gets behind, and the ZIP sheathing, which Abodu uses as the primary weather barrier, is only as good as the tape that seals it.
