Signs Your Sakrete Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

• Pavers rock or tilt underfoot. The bedding sand layer has eroded or compacted unevenly, often because the original installer skipped the 1-inch screeded sand bed and went thinner. In Cupertino, where the winter wet season can drop 15 inches, that shortcut shows up fast.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here, and then there’s the point where DIY costs more than it saves. You can check joint width with a tape measure, look for the Sakrete bag lot number in your garage, and photograph the failure pattern - all of that helps us quote accurately when you call. What we don’t recommend is lifting pavers yourself to regrade the base. The bedding layer looks simple, but it needs uniform 1-inch thickness compacted to 95% standard Proctor density, and without a plate compactor and screed rails you’ll get soft spots that telegraph through in six months.

Polymeric sand installation also has a narrow window: dampen too much and you wash out the binder; dampen too little and it doesn’t activate.
